MONTAGE, MI. — Bronson freshman McKenna Webster made the long trip to Montague during the holiday break to showcase her grappling skills at the Lady Mat Cat Wrestling Invitational, and the trip was definitely worth the time.

Webster made her presence at the state level known, pinning her way through her bracket on her way to claiming the championship of the 140 pound weight class.

Webster drew the top seed in her bracket and wasted little time showing why, pinning her first round opponent, Rylee Wright of Fremont, in :48 seconds. In round two Webster found herself matched up with Krista Cowles of Whitmore Prescott, a match Webster would dominate and win via pin fall at :40 seconds.

In the semifinals Webster faced off with MacKenzie Maka of Allendale, a meeting Webster would again win via pin fall, sticking her opponent in 1:33 and punching her ticket to the championship bout the second seeded Jessica Martinez of West Catholic.

Again Webster wasted little time turning her opponent, claiming the gold medal with her fourth straight pin fall, pinning Martinez in 1:09 to take the gold at 140 pounds.

En route to her gold medal Webster defeated two ranked opponents, taking down the third ranked and the tenth ranked wrestlers at her weight class. Webster spent a total of just 4 minutes, 10 seconds on the mat and secured the most pins of any wrestler at the tournament while doing so without giving up a single point.

With her championship effort Webster improves to 17-2 overall on the season.
